Web Design is the craft of how a website looks and feels. It turns ideas and content into attractive, easy-to-use pages — with deliberate layout, colour, typography and visual hierarchy that guide the visitor's eye and make a brand feel trustworthy. What you'll learn: You'll learn the principles that make a page work: balance, spacing, alignment, contrast and visual hierarchy so the most important things stand out. You'll study colour theory and how to build a palette, choose and pair fonts, and set type for comfortable reading. You'll design full page layouts — landing pages, home pages, portfolios — and make them responsive so they look right on phones, tablets and laptops. You'll work from a brief, create wireframes and mockups, build reusable components and style guides, and hand a design over so it can be built. You'll also cover accessibility basics so your sites work for everyone. Tools & technologies: Figma (the industry-standard design tool), plus design systems, image and asset preparation, and an understanding of how HTML and CSS turn a design into a real page. Real-life scenarios: • Design a landing page for a small business that turns visitors into paying customers. • Redesign a cluttered, dated website so it's clean, modern and easy to read on a phone. • Create a personal portfolio site that shows off your work and helps you get hired. • Build a consistent brand look — logo usage, colours, buttons, spacing — reused across every page. • Mock up a new website for a client and present it for feedback before a line of code is written. • Improve a page's layout so visitors find what they need and stay longer. Career paths: Web designer, visual or brand designer, or a strong stepping stone toward UI/UX design and frontend development. Who it's for: Visually creative people, small-business owners who want a better website, and anyone heading toward a design or frontend career.
